The historic Orpheum Theater in downtown Madison will reopen under the management of Frank Productions.
The Orpheum Theater on State Street went into foreclosure in early September, and the court-appointed attorney handling the proceedings has asked Frank Productions to assist in managing the venue during that process, which can take up to a year.
"It's a great venue, with 2,000 seats. It serves downtown residents, the (University of Wisconsin) student population. There are a lot of shows Madison isn't getting because it wasn't being pushed properly. We think Madison is missing a lot of really good shows," said Fred Frank, president of Frank Productions.
At the end of the foreclosure process, the Orpheum Theater will enter a sheriff's sale. Frank said his company plans to make a bid to purchase the historic theater.
"We think it's a gem. We think it's just a great thing for the community. We live here, we've been here our whole lives; we've done hundreds, probably thousands of shows, in Madison. This is just another thing we want to provide to Madison, just good quality entertainment," Frank said.
Frank Productions said it plans to have its first shows at the Orpheum Theater in December.
