Sherrilyn Kenyon

AuthorView: Sherrilyn Kenyon

POSTED: 11:08 am CDT September 9, 2005

Sherrilyn Kenyon praises kick-butt heroines, the attraction of opposites, and the synchronicity of Powerball and Pulitzers -- all in this week's AuthorView.

MB:What or who inspired "Seize the Night?"

SK:I'm not sure "inspire" is a correct term for anything I write. I tend to write whatever characters grab a hold of me and tell their stories. Tabitha and Valerius were a lot of fun to stick together since they were such polar opposites. I've been wanting to write their story for a long time.

MB: What do you like most about "Seize the Night?"

SK:The chemistry between Val and Tabby and the fact that Tabby is such a strong heroine. She knows exactly what she wants out of life and she isn't the kind of person to let anyone stop her. I liked watching her grow with Val by her side since he's so not her type.

MB: Tell us about the most heroic person you know.

SK:That would be my older brother. He was always there when I needed him. No matter how big or small the request, he would always come through. Not to mention, he once ran out into the street to keep my dog from being run over and was almost hit himself. He really was a hero.

MB:Who's your hero: Dark, brooding bad boy or white knight in shining armor?

SK:A bad boy in shining armor who has a wicked sense of humor. I never could stand anyone who brooded.

MB:Answer the question you wish an interviewer would ask.

SK:Yes, it was a great honor to win the Pulitzer Prize. I still can't believe that it really happened to me. Wow. And I have to say that winning the Power Ball on that same day was just an added bonus. Who knew $800 million could be so much fun! Vegas, here I come (that is, after I donate a couple of million to Cancer, CP and Autism research).
