Just as summer arrives in Madison, there's word a summer festival is on hold and the traditional July Fourth fireworks in Elver Park have been canceled.

Bluesfest organizers said in a statement released late last night, the event this year is canceled. They blame the city of Madison for failing to reach a new and equitable agreement, in a timely manner.

The mayors office said that's news to it. Spokeswoman Melanie Conklin said Bluesfest organizers never came forward with complaints.

Mayor Dave Cieslewicz said he'd hate to see the event go away, and hopes its not too late to reach an agreement.

The Elver Park fireworks have been canceled due to lack of funds.
