Preliminary Autopsy Pinpoints Cause Of Righteous Brother's Death
Coroner Says Hatfield Died Of Heart Attack
POSTED: 11:42 a.m. EST November 7, 2003
Preliminary autopsy results indicate Bobby Hatfield of the legendary rock duo the Righteous Brothers died of a heart attack.
Hatfield (pictured, left), who was 63, was found dead in a Kalamazoo, Mich., hotel room Wednesday -- 45 minutes before he and fellow singer Bill Medley were to go onstage for a concert at Western Michigan University.
Hatfield was the tenor of the famed singing duo.
The Righteous Brothers' manager, David Cohen, said Hatfield was a smoker but he was not aware of Hatfield having any chronic health problems.
The Righteous Brothers recorded such classic hits as "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling," "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration" and "Rock and Roll Heaven." They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year.
Cohen said Wednesday that Medley was "broken up" over Hatfield's death -- and not even coherent.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
