MADISON, Wis. -- Rhythm & Booms has been postponed to Sunday due to the threat of severe weather.Deb McCue, vice president of the Madison Fireworks Fund, confirmed that the event has been canceled for Saturday and will instead be held on the rain date, Sunday, June 28.McCue said it was a public safety decision to delay the event."The threat was too severe and too late in the day," McCue said. "We couldn't take the risk of a huge crowd in the park."Mayor Dave Cieslewicz said the full event will go forward on schedule Sunday, with events in Warner Park starting at 12 p.m. For a schedule of events Sunday, click here.McCue said all volunteers should report on Sunday the same as they would've on Saturday.WISC-TV meteorologist Gary Cannalte said Sunday's forecast is 78 degrees, sunny and less humid. The Madison Mallards game scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Saturday is still on. The Mallards will also play at 3:05 p.m. Sunday.Huge crowds are expected at Warner Park on Madison's north side for Rhythm & Booms. Billed as the "largest fireworks display in the Midwest," a firework show set to music is set to begin at 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The event also features live music, a carnival midway, food and other events. Organizers said the midway carnival will close at 8:30 p.m. because there were some issues after dark last year."Because of the tough economic times, it is more difficult to raise sponsor money for this event and therefore we are depending on Madison, Dane County, southern Wisconsin, to come out here to this beautiful green park. It's going to be perfect conditions," said Terry Kelly, Rhythm & Booms organizer and president of the Madison Fireworks Fund. The proceeds from Rhythm & Booms, after expenses, are donated to Madison children's charities. The fireworks will be choreographed to music broadcast on WOLX 94.9 FM, beginning at 9:30 p.m. Organizers said people should bring their radios to the park, for live announcements throughout the day, as well as the music soundtrack that accompanies the fireworks display.Organizers said that about 200 officers from various law enforcement agencies will be on hand to assist in policing the event and assist with traffic direction before and after the event.Extra officers will also be watching for drunken drivers and boaters.A special traffic plan will again be put into effect to handle traffic exciting the Warner Park area after the fireworks display.Get Rhythm & Booms traffic plan information and a route map here (PFD).For more information, visit the Rhythm & Booms Web site.
