Oshkosh Museum To Open 'The Era Of Public Enemies'

'Public Enemies' Movie Opens July 1

Updated: 2:07 pm CDT June 26, 2009

The Oshkosh Public Museum's exhibit about Depression-era crime that coincides with the movie "Public Enemies" opens this weekend.

Museum officials hope "The Era of Public Enemies: A Wave of Crime in a Troubled Time" will educate visitors on the circumstances that led to the 1933-34 crime wave that inspired the filming of the movie.

It will revisit a string of Midwest bank robberies from that time as well as the transformation of some Wisconsin locations for the 2008 filming of "Public Enemies," starring Johnny Depp.

The grand opening on Saturday will also feature a 1929 Packard Roadster as well as the nationally acclaimed Midwest Motorized Bandits performing holdups.

It runs through October 18.

Oshkosh, Madison and Milwaukee will hold advanced screenings and fundraising parties June 30, a day before the movie opens nationwide.
