MADISON, Wis. -- If you had a brat from Brat Fest this weekend, congratulations, you're a part of history. The record-breaking, 208,752nd brat was sold Sunday afternoon -- the final tally from the weekend and a new world's record. That topped last year's Brat Fest record of about 192,000, an increase of almost 9 percent. Some Dane County sheriff deputies escorted the record brat from the truck, to the grill and to the lucky customer, Beth Larson."I'm excited -- I'm glad, it's amazing that we broke the record, but I'm glad that they did," said Larson.Larson said she's been coming to Brat Fest since it began at Hilldale Mall on the city's West Side.As for the record brat, it's not for her. She was going to give it to her dog.The event is billed World's Largest Brat Fest, and the Madison tradition keeps getting larger.Tim Metcalfe, the owner of Metcalfe Sentry Foods and organizer of this year's event, said he thinks more people came out because of the nice weather, and because the sour economy kept people in town for the long weekend. He estimates the festival raised more than $100,000 for the dozens of nonprofit organizations and charities that helped staff the event.
