Madison Offers Many Vegetarian Dining Options

Special To Channel 3000Steve White had already cut out red meat from his diet when he moved to Madison in the fall of 2003. White, a project manager at Epic, became a total vegetarian his freshman year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and says he has found Madison to be a vegetarian-friendly place."I've never been in a restaurant (in Madison) and not been able to eat food," White says. He can even find something to eat everywhere, even at a steakhouse, he says, though some restaurants have more meat-free options than others.Madison doesn't flaunt its status as a vegetarian-friendly city, but it stands out in a state with a long tradition of brats at tailgates and deer hunting in the fall.People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals even named Madison number eight on its list of America's most vegetarian-friendly small cities on the Go Veg Web site.
