Wisconsin State Fair Returns With Cream Puffs, Mooing Contests

Fair Ends Aug. 10

UPDATED: 2:38 pm CDT August 3, 2008

It's cream puff season again. That's because the Wisconsin State Fair is back in session in West Allis.

Last year, fairgoers bought more than 355,000 cream puffs at the 11-day event, where more than 800,000 people passed through the gates.

Among the attractions this year are the annual Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction on Wednesday and the annual mooing contest next Saturday.

Besides that, there are always the more than 10,000 animals like poultry, sheep, goats, swine, horses, cattle, llamas and alpacas.

After a spate of useless tickets were presented, Wisconsin State Fair officials are warning people to only buy tickets from authorized sources.

Fair spokeswoman Patrice Harris said unauthorized sellers outside the fair gates have been selling tickets that have already been scanned and used for admission.

Once fair tickets are scanned, they can't be used again. However, there's no way for a consumer to know if their ticket has been scanned until they try to use it.

The fair said that through Saturday night, more than 3,300 fairgoers had presented void tickets purchased from unauthorized sellers.

The fair ends Aug. 10.
