High River Forces Cancellation Of Janesville Water Ski Show

Event Was Slated For Early August

UPDATED: 1:17 pm CDT June 25, 2008

A national water ski show to be held in Janesville has been canceled.

The Rock Aqua Jays board decided on Tuesday night to cancel the August tournament. The club was supposed to host the event on the Rock River in downtown Janesville.

But club president Joel Shapiro said that it looks like the Rock River will still be too swollen in early August to hold the event. Recent storms have created flooding along the river, and more rain is expected this week.

Shapiro said that canceling the tournament will cost the area $2 million in tourism.
