Authorities Gearing Up For Fourth Of July Celebrations
Officials Say Children Should Always Be Supervised

MADISON, Wis. -- The Fourth of July is less than two weeks away and local authorities are starting to prepare early and letting residents know what types of fireworks they can and cannot set off to celebrate.
VIDEO: Watch The ReportFireworks are for many the highlight of Fourth of July celebrations and but fire and police department officials are urging people to keep large pyrotechnic displays to the pros, WISC-TV reported."A lot of people say, 'Oh, what harm can it do?' We know it can do a lot of harm," said Lori Wirth of the Madison Fire Department.With recent accidents, such as the fireworks injury at Velma Hamilton Middle School this spring, authorities hope people are even more aware of the danger fireworks pose.Officials are making sure everyone knows the limits on lighting fireworks, and reminding the public of the dangers to themselves and children."The only thing that's legal for private citizens to use in the city of Madison is caps, snaps, snakes, sparklers and party poppers," said Wirth.Wirth said that residents who wish to see the fireworks that blow up and go up, the safest and legal thing to do is go to the park, WISC-TV reported"You're really not going to come close to the public displays and really that's the best way to enjoy fireworks," said Wirth.Authorities are reminding everyone that children should always be supervised when around fireworks, even with the use of sparklers.
