"American Idol" contestant David Cook experienced heart palpitations and high blood pressure Tuesday, leading to a brief hospitalization, confirmed the executive producer of the show Wednesday.

Nigel Lythgoe said that Cook, a 25-year-old singer from Oklahoma, was treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and did not require continued care.

Cook is due back for Wednesday night's castoff show.

He received good reviews Tuesday night for his version of Dolly Parton's "Little Sparrow."

Cook was apparently not feeling well during the day, TMZ.com reported, and his condition worsened after his performance.

He was driven to the hospital after medics on the show determined that his blood pressure was "far too high," TMZ said. Cook was reportedly treated with medication for his high blood pressure and released.

An "Idol" executive told TMZ that Cook has been stressed out over the worsening condition of his brother, who is battling cancer.
