She said the experience has been unbelievable. And area businesses, like Red Bud Bakery & Bistro, said they saw a big boost in business when film crews moved in."We can say honestly that, yes, we served coffee to Johnny Depp" said Paul Gorton, owner of Red Bud Bakery & Bistro. The restaurant is at the center of where most of the shooting took place. Gorton said that Universal Studios bought him out for three days -- and then bought food to feed the cast and crew. At one point, because of the weather, the crew set up shop in his restaurant."We came in and there were like 15 monitors and 25 cables snaking out the front door," Gorton said. Many businesses were forced to close because of the filming. But Universal Studios struck deals with 85 businesses in Columbus -- for services or for business lost because of filming."Universal has been very good at trying to make it right for people who are impacted," Osterhaus said. "Typically, we've been running about 60 to 80 people in town every day for about a month, which is just huge. This is March in Wisconsin; it's not a big time for food and lodging and gas. All of the restaurants in town have set records in sales -- here in the middle of March."The mayor said that practically no one lost money. She said that, if anything, businesses gained from the experience."They went down the street riding on the floorboard of a '34 Coupe," Osterhaus said. "(Depp was) shooting his tommy gun in our town. It was just a kick."There are no specific numbers yet for the windfall in Columbus. In Darlington, officials estimate that the crowds generated more than $20,000 in extra business. The film crew was in Oshkosh Tuesday. Filmmakers will return to Columbus later this spring and to Madison within the next few months.
