MADISON, Wis. -- Two Madison men said they started a Web site about Chicago-style hot dogs almost as a joke, but the site has grown in popularity, especially with the Chicago Bears in the Super Bowl.Kevin Sherfinski and Mitch Kite created HotDogChicagoStyle.com, a Web site devoted to finding the best Chicago-style hot dogs in the area."Some foods you eat it and keep coming back," Sherfinski said. He said he fell in love with Chicago-style hot dogs in college.Kite said he got hooked on the hot dogs when he was growing up in Chicago. The men decided to channel their passion into a Web site that rates the quality of Chicago-style hot dogs in the area."The initial idea was to do this for ourselves and friends and family and put up dogs that we reviewed and people could get a good Chicago dog," Kite said. But with the Chicago Bears in the Super Bowl, the men said that traffic on the Web site has skyrocketed."We never realized there's any significance between Chicago-style and the Bears," Kite said. Now a Bears helmet adorns the homepage of the Web site. For those looking to make their Super Bowl party authentic, Sherfinski and Kite said that Picasso's serves the best Chicago-style hot dog in town."We bought the restaurant and it used to be called Presto's and they served Chicago-style hot dogs. So obviously we trained ourselves how to prepare proper Chicago style," said Chad Leppien, owner of Picasso's Pizza.Sherfinski and Kite said that ingredients and order are crucial to making a quality Chicago-style hot dog."Always start with mustard," Kite said.He said chopped onions and lots of relish should be added next."With the tomato there's a bit of disagreement. We like the wedge," Sherfinski said."A dog is not complete without celery salt," Kite added. They said that it's also important to not use ketchup."It's always been, for some reason, no ketchup on Chicago dogs," Kite said. Sherfinski and Kite said their reviews are somewhat scientific. They said that for every hot dog stand they visit, they plug numbers into a formula that determines the ranking. Those looking for more hot dog etiquette and tips on how to make their own Chicago dog, can visit the Web site at HotDogChicagoStyle.com.
