UW Regents consider Blank for Madison chancellor
Board will meet Friday in La Crosse
The University of Wisconsin System's Board of Regents will meet to consider whether to approve Rebecca Blank as the next chancellor of UW-Madison.
A search committee recommended her to lead the flagship Madison campus. She's the acting U.S. Secretary of Commerce, and she holds a doctorate degree in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
She said her top priorities in Madison will include placing a strong emphasis on fundraising.
Republican state Rep. Steve Nass has opposed her selection. He says her credentials are impressive but he's worried her policies will lead to unaffordable tuitions.
The board on Friday will also consider the selection of James Schmidt to lead UW-Eau Claire. He was the vice president for university advancement at Winona State University in Minnesota.
