It might have dropped on the list of party schools but the University of Wisconsin is taking honors for its diversity.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has been recognized as among the top schools in the country for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students, WISC-TV reported.

The Advocate College Guide For LGBT Students profiles 100 colleges and universities nationwide that offer resources and create a positive learning environment for LGBT students.

A number of UW programs and services and the LGBT Campus Center were listed among its attributes.

The ranking follows a heated year on campus. There were reported hate crimes in Ogg Hall and at Madison's East Towne Mall.

In response, the UW launched a three-part awareness campaign that included the sale of T-shirts that read, "Gay? Fine by me."
