German Students Stranded In Oregon Return Home

Volcano Ash Had Grounded Return Flight

German students who had been stranded while visiting Oregon High School have finally returned home to Germany Wednesday.

The students spent weeks at the school. When they heard about the volcanic ash, they spent most of their time talking to airlines about the fastest route home.

While some of the students said it was nice to stay a little longer, most were frustrated with being in travel limbo.

"This is unheard of; it's kind of unfair. This volcano apparently erupts every 200 years and why it should do that during the last three days of our stay is really not very nice," said Holger Windmoeller, a German chaperone and teacher, on Tuesday.

Exchange program organizers said there are American students at the hosting school in Germany.
