Madison School District Hit By Budget Cuts
Hit Larger Than Expected

MADISON, Wis. -- The Madison Metropolitan School District needs to slash more dollars from its budget.District officials said on Thursday the total cut in funding will be about $9.2 million, or 15 percent. That's about $1 million to $3 million more than the state Department of Public Instruction previously told the district to expect.The state budget was supposed to cap the cut at 10 percent, but the governor vetoed a portion of the budget offering the protection.The school district is looking into the discrepancy in numbers, officials said.
