WHITEWATER, Wis. -- A threat at Whitewater High School has prompted families to pull their students from school.Out of a student body of 650 at Whitewater High School, only 12 students are black. Six of those students' names were found written on a bathroom stall, along with racial slurs and a death threat.Loussaint Minett, a Whitewater High School student, said that only a few students know how he feels walking the halls of the high school."Being black, it kind of feels like it doesn't let us be ourselves around here," Minett said."The worst part about it is that we don't know who could've done this," said student Dami Minett.Families have pulled their students from the school because of the threat."We have a captive audience here. It's somebody at that school who wrote that. Period," said Toby Minett, a concerned father.Whitewater Principal Vance Dalzin said the threats are being taken very seriously, and the school is investigating with Whitewater police."I want whitewater to grow from this experience," Dalzin said. "Thirty different students have been questioned. One of the errors we made is we didn't contact the parents right away, and that was my error. Parents should've been contacted right away. These parents are great parents -- they have every right to be concerned."Students said the threat is the latest incident of racism that's becoming a problem around the school. "They say it behind your back and when you're stopping by your locker. They'll say the N-word and you could just hear it down the hallway," said student Banki Minett.Whitewater police said they're investigating a number of serious leads and looking at handwriting samples. Police said they hope the leads will help them find out who might have been responsible."I want them back in school. I want the guy caught. I want a sense of security for me and my kids up at the school," Toby Minett said.Whitewater's principal said he hopes generate real dialogue among students about race and about how to erase these negative feelings among students with the hope of finding some resolution.
