R. Timothy Mulcahy has been serving in the role of vice president for research at the University of Minnesota since February 2005. Prior to that, he spent 17 years in various roles on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.

He said one of his top priorities is unifying the campus behind UW's goals.

"From students, faculty, alumni, corporate sponsors, legislators other system universities, we have to develop and earn support from all those sectors if we're to succeed," Mulcahy said.

A public Q&A will be held Thursday for the remaining finalist, Rebecca Blank, the former dean at the Gerald Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan.

The public can meet Blank at a reception in the Memorial Union's main lounge from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday.

Earlier this week, public receptions were held for finalists Gary Sandefur, the dean of the UW's College of Letters and Science, and Carolyn "Biddy" Martin, who is currently the provost of Cornell University in New York.
