Committee Narrows List Of Names For New School To 4

A school naming committee has tentatively narrowed the 87 names proposed for the new elementary school on Madison's West Side down to four.

TALKBACK: What Should School Be Named?

The tentative school names are:

  • Jeffrey Erlanger
  • Paul Olson
  • Howard Temin
  • Ilda Thomas

Erlanger, a quadriplegic from age 1, was honored by Mr. Rogers on national TV for his many community contributions and his spirit.

Olson was a teacher, principal and creator of the Madison School Forest, which combines conservation and education.

Temin was a Nobel Prize winner for cancer research.

Thomas helped establish Centro Hispano in 1983.
