"With everything we hear nowadays, something of this nature is not to be taken lightly."The Lafayette County Sheriff's Department and Belmont police responded to the school to investigate. The student was interviewed and then transported to a care facility, WISC-TV reported."One never knows what harm may or may not have been prevented by kids coming forward, so I'm very proud of these kids that came forward," Benkers said.School officials had removed the boy from the student population by the time law enforcement had arrived, and authorities said they believed students at the school were never in imminent danger.Parents like Denis Tillotson said they appreciated the school's fast action in the situation."I think they did the right thing. You have to do that. I would not have been happy had they not done anything about it," Tillotson said.Tillotson said the senior is a decent kid who doesn't fit the stereotype of a troubled teenager."I'm surprised he did something like this. You don't know if he's going to carry through with it or not. You got to act on this stuff now," Tillotson said.School officials said that the student has been suspended for five days and that the school is going forward with an expulsion hearing.Authorities said there were no other suspects in the case and that the Lafayette County district attorney will make a decision on charges once the investigation is complete.
