UW-Madison Delays Plan To Increase Tuition For Engineering Majors

Committee Studying Tuition Policies

Updated: 6:52 pm CDT August 13, 2007

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has delayed a plan to increase tuition for undergraduate engineering majors by $1,400 over three years.

College of Engineering Dean Paul Peercy proposed the idea earlier this year as a way to increase funding to hire additional faculty and make other academic improvements.

At the time, he said that it would go into effect for the coming school year if approved by the UW System Board of Regents. The regents set tuition for the fall semester last week without acting on the plan.

UW-Madison Provost Patrick Farrell said that the university is still considering the proposal but it has been delayed while a system committee studies policies related to such differential tuition plans.
