MADISON, Wis. -- University of Wisconsin chancellors are reviewing recommendations made by a special commission examining campus safety. The President's Commission on University Security was formed after the shootings in April at Virginia Tech. Thirty-two people were killed before the gunman committed suicide.Campus chancellors have until Aug. 20 to discuss which recommendations they will follow.Commission president Sue Riseling said that funding will be a key part of the discussions. One of the recommendations is developing an early warning system so that people can report troubling behavior.Part of that system could include a specialized team, similar to a team of faculty, resident hall staff and mental health professionals developed at UW-Oshkosh.The team meets regularly to discuss information about students who may be at risk and in need of intervention. The report also shows some campuses don't have 24-hour police surveillance and have limited counseling resources.
