World-Famous Artist Collaborates With Local Middle-Schoolers

40 Students Paint Mural With Wyland

POSTED: 9:18 pm CDT October 10, 2006

Students at a Madison middle school collaborated with a world-famous contemporary painter to create a mural.

The artist known simply as Wyland -- who is famous for panting building-sized marine murals in cities around the country -- visited Cherokee Middle School on Tuesday where he worked with 40 students to paint a mural.

"Nothing is typical when you're painting with kids," Wyland said. "Some of these kids will paint animals that haven't been discovered yet."

The mural will be framed and displayed at the school. Cherokee Middle School won a national contest and a visit from Wyland.

He is touring to promote, preserve and protect the waters of the planet.
