Dane County has received federal stimulus funding for a pair of significant highway improvement projects.

University Avenue, also known as County Highway MS, between Segoe Road and Shorewood Boulevard will receive $3 million in stimulus money. The pavement on University Avenue will be replaced, upgrading a significant stretch of the busy thoroughfare.

County Highway K between County Highways M and Q in the Town of Westport will also be upgraded. The cost for that project is $600,000.

County leaders secured the stimulus money under the Federal Reinvestment and Recovery Act.

County Executive Kathleen Falk said by aggressively pursuing every pot of stimulus money the county can, it is improving vital infrastructure and helping to put people to work. She also said these projects will make it safer and easier for people to get around Dane County.

This latest round of highway funding is in addition to more than $1.7 million in stimulus money the county secured earlier this year for bridge improvement projects that will begin this month on Highway B in Rockdale and Highway N in Dunkirk.
