Madison native Jerry Kelly shot an 83 on Thursday during the first round of the British Open.

Kelly finished his first 18 holes of play +13 and ended the day in 151st place, with only three competitors behind him.

Chilly temperatures, gusty winds and, at times, driving rain made for an uncomfortable start to the tournament being held in The Royal Birkdale Golf Club.
