Man To Stand Trial On Charges Of Attacking Dodge County Deputy

27-Year-Old Also Faces Bail Jumping Charge

UPDATED: 8:25 am CDT May 16, 2008

A trial has been ordered for a man accused of attacking a Dodge County sheriff's deputy with a beer glass, causing facial injuries that required dozens of stitches.

Westly Thompson, 27, is charged with battery to a peace officer and bail jumping. Thompson's also charged with causing injuries to his 19-year-old sister at his parents' Iron Ridge home on March 9.

Because of Thompson's history of violence, three Dodge County sheriff's deputies were sent to Rock River Bar and Grill to arrest Thompson for battering his sister. The beer glass shattered when the deputy was struck in the face. In addition to severe facial cuts, the deputy broke two teeth. Authorities said that Thompson bit a second deputy in the hand.

At the time of his arrest, Thompson was out on bail on accusations of assaulting his wife in Washington County in January.
