Brewers Sign Ryan Braun To 8-Year, $45 Million Contract

Left-fielder Ryan Braun will be with the Milwaukee Brewers through 2015.

The Brewers announced Thursday they signed Braun to an eight-year, $45 million contract.

"It's a very special day for me," Braun said while thanking his family and the Brewers for making the day possible. "It's unbelievable."

Braun hit .324 with 34 homers and 97 RBIs last season after a May 26 callup. He has hit nine homers and driven in 29 runs so far this season, batting .287.

"I was ready to make this commitment to the city of Milwaukee and to the fans," Braun said.

General manager Doug Melvin said the Brewers are confident in Braun's talent and strong character.

"The Prince Fielders, the Ryan Brauns don't come along every year. So when you get that type of player, you feel you need to step up, keep them in your system," Melvin said.
