DOT scorecard rates transportation performance
4 areas listed as favorable, 2 listed as needing improvements
A Wisconsin Department of Transportation scorecard ranks four areas as favorable for the first half of the year and two areas where improvements are needed, according to a release.
The WisDOT released its latest performance analysis, which shows transportation performance measures meeting or exceeding established goals Thursday.
The MAPSS Performance Improvement Scorecard analyzes progress in five goal areas: mobility, accountability, preservation, safety and service.
Areas that are trending favorable over the first half of the year include traffic fatalities, seat-belt usage, transportation jobs and communication.
Traffic fatalities are down about 15 percent compared to last year, and traffic crash and injury rates are also trending downward, according to the scorecard. About 83 percent of Wisconsin motorists are wearing a seat belt, which is at an all-time high but still short of the national average of 86 percent.
The scorecard also listed transportation jobs as favorable because Transportation Economic Assistance awards helped create or retain 1,640 jobs so far this year. Communication has also increased over the first part of the year with the 511 Travel Information System handling over 1.6 million web hits and phone calls.
Areas that are trending as needing improvements include road pavement quality and DMV wait time, according to the release.
The percent of state highway pavements rated “fair” or above declined slightly to just over 90 percent, according to the release. Wait times at DMV customer service centers increased, with about 68 percent of customers served within 20 minutes on a goal of 80 percent.
“Governor Walker is calling on all state agencies to closely monitor performance and get the most out of limited resources,” said WisDOT Secretary Mark Gottlieb. “The latest MAPSS Scorecard shows we’re headed in the right direction overall, but also identifies areas where we can improve.”
Data collected for the scorecard is being used to develop improvement strategies, according to the release. The department is also employing new technologies and innovative practices to help achieve performance goals.
