Give Gift Of Health This Holiday Season

Exercise Videos, Pedometers, Spa Gift Certificates Make Great Gifts

If you are still looking for a gift for someone on your holiday gift list, you may want to consider the gift of health.

One idea is a video game that is guaranteed to jump start your loved one's metabolism -- Dance Dance Revolution. Unlike the typical video games, this one gets the player up and burning calories. The video started as an arcade game, but now you can have it at home for $50 to $70, reported WCAU-TV in Philadelphia.

How about a spa gift certificate? Services start at $60 and go up from there, depending on what services you choose.

For the person on your list who is desperately seeking some deep relaxation, a massage can give them an experience that is both relaxing and good for blood circulation.

If a massage isn't enough to ease the stress, consider a gift that lasts a lot longer -- such as a gym membership. Prices vary, depending on the fitness center of your choice.

"There's a lot of gifts around the holidays that kind of come and go, but something like exercise is an investment in your health where you can kind of point them in the right direction that lasts forever," said Steve Godfrey, of the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Bala Cynwyd, Pa.

Some people find it easier to exercise with a little motivation, so sessions with a personal trainer are sure to keep them moving. An hour session with a pro will cost you about $60.

Another health-conscious gift is the pedometer. It will count every step your loved one takes toward a more healthy lifestyle.

For $1,500, consider the gift of life -- a home defibrillator. The Food and Drug Administration has approved the heart-starting device for over-the-counter sale. The manufacturers say it is foolproof and can deliver a life-saving jolt to someone who is having a heart attack. But watch out: There's controversy about whether people without significant heart risks should own them.

For the person in your life who loves a healthy tan all year-round, no problem. From lotions to gels to spray-on tans, you can give the gift of glow this holiday. Products start at less than $20.
