With higher gas prices all of us are looking to save some money, it's as simple as just making some changes in the way we drive.

For example, rather than speeding away from a stoplight, auto experts say you'll save more gas by accelerating smoothly.

On the highway, slowing down by just 10 mph, such as from 70 to 60, can increase gas mileage as much as ten percent.

News 3 auto expert Matt Joseph said that humid weather also increases efficiency.

"Pickup trucks, for example, vans, minivans, they will benefit a great deal more -- basically the issue is how much air they have to push out of the way to go where they're going," he said.

Cars are more aerodynamic, so slowing down will not affect gas mileage as much, but it still helps.

When prices go down, and you're looking for another vehicle, Joseph says consumer should remember the pain you're feeling now and go for a more fuel-efficient model.
