A new company, Community Car, in Madison is offering an alternative -- car sharing.

You pay $15 a month and have access to a fleet of fuel-efficient cars at $4 an hour and 40 cents a mile.

The company says using a car for 20 hours a month to run errands costs about $120, a lot less than a car payment.

There are an estimated 19 car-sharing companies operating in cities on the East and West coasts, and one recently opened in Chicago.
