MADISON, Wis. -- Madison Metro bus riders will soon see changes to some routes brought on by increased ridership and soaring gas costs. The Transit and Parking Commission took feedback on the changes last month at a public hearing on Tuesday night. The committee moved to approve a version of Route 13, which will stretch from the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus to John Nolen Drive and eventually the South Transfer Point, WISC-TV reported.Proposed cuts to Route 13 upset many riders, but keeping it comes despite a $26,000 shortfall.Madison Common Council member Brian Solomon said that the next step is to talk with the Town of Madison to come up with this money.Madison Metro officials said that its fuel budget has increased $2 million during the past five years. The price of diesel fuel is well over $4 a gallon, and the average Metro bus gets a little more than 4 miles per gallon. They're using an average of 112,000 gallons of diesel every month.
