MADISON, Wis. -

The cold weather left schools empty Tuesday, but there were still plenty of children at the east side YMCA.

The YMCA of Dane County offered a solution to parents looking for reliable child care after schools in the area closed Tuesday. Three YMCA branches in Madison offered drop-in child care.

YMCA employee Jason McColl said while the program gives parents peace of mind, kids are excited to spend the day in a new environment.

“They’re excited about not having to go to school today, and they’re enjoying themselves, getting to meet children they don’t normally get to play with,” McColl said.

This is the third time the YMCA has opened up for day care this year and they’re planning to make it a permanent option during school cancellations.
