Congressman Signs On Bill To Repeal Ethanol Incentives

Sensenbrenner Says Ethanol Is Less Efficient

UPDATED: 2:17 pm CDT May 1, 2008

A Wisconsin congressman has signed on as a co-sponsor of a bill that would repeal incentives for producing ethanol.

The bill introduced by Republican U.S. Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., would repeal the tax credits for ethanol producers, among other moves.

Republican Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner said he's always opposed reformulated gasoline that includes ethanol.

He said that it's less efficient, giving consumers fewer miles per gallon, and it has added costs because it's made from corn that is converted to ethanol and then has to be transported.

With the rising reliance on ethanol for fuel, Sensenbrenner said the increasing cost of corn means higher costs for animal feed and food, hitting families hard.
