What is your favorite part about living in Madison?
The view of downtown from John Nolen Drive gets me every time. The city is beautiful and has so much to offer.

What is the biggest news story that you've covered?
No doubt, the recall effort against Gov. Scott Walker. Prior to my time in Wisconsin, I'd vote for my coverage of the auto industry's comeback after its near-collapse.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I watch a lot of football, golf and other sports. And I enjoy taking the drive up Interstate 39 to northern Wisconsin, because it looks a lot like northern Michigan, where I spent a lot of time growing up.

What is your favorite kind of ice cream?
Vanilla with hot fudge.

What is the funniest thing that's ever happened to you?
When you're in the business of live television, a lot of funny and unexpected things happen. To single one out wouldn't be fair to the other bloopers.

What is your favorite place to vacation?
Traverse City, Michigan, in the summer, and the Gulf Coast of Florida in the winter.

Who is your hero and why?
My parents, because they've given me love and discipline to make me who I am today.

What was your favorite band when you were in high school?
Coldplay. High school wasn't that long ago for me!

What is your favorite sport to play or watch?
Watch: college football. Play: golf.

If you could possess one superhuman power, what would it be?
Superhuman vision, so I could get rid of the glasses I've worn since second grade!

What are you really bad at that you'd love to be great at?

What is your most memorable travel experience?
I spent a summer in New York during college. For this Midwesterner, it was a memorable learning experience. I found out what I really wanted in life -- among other things, some room to roam that New Yorkers just don't have.

What is the worst job you have ever had?
I've only had two kinds of jobs – journalism and umpiring baseball games. They've both been great!

Who would you most like to interview alive or dead, and why?
In light of the extremism in politics and life in general these days, I'd like to interview political leaders and civil rights leaders from past decades about how we could do better.

What is your favorite tradition around the holidays?
My family always used to take a driving tour around town to look at Christmas lights. But I really like going anywhere during the holiday season – people are so friendly and happy.

What is your favorite song of all time?
Tough one. "Celebration" by Kool and the Gang, "Higher Ground" by Stevie Wonder, "Clocks" by Coldplay.

What is your favorite movie of all time?
ESPN's "30 for 30" documentaries kept me tuning in last year. I really don't like going to the movie theatre though.

What is your favorite book of all time?
The Grapes of Wrath, by John Steinbeck

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Don't try to be anyone else. Be the best "you" that you can be.

If you could relive any moment...what would that be?
Michigan State's 2000 national basketball championship (sorry Badger fans). It was one of the happiest moments of my childhood.

Where were you when September 11, 2001 occurred?
In seventh grade social studies class. I'll never forget it.
